Assassin: Straight out of Spragga Benz’s Red Square camp is Assassin, a DJ with all the tools necessary for superstardom: Good looks, charisma, versatility, voice and undeniable lyrical talent. In other words, he’s a lot like his mentor. Unfortunately, while the Benzspeculous one is the total package on paper (and in the hearts of some devoted fans) he has never captured Dancehall completely. Assassin may be destined for the same fate.

Assassin has proven his ability to tackle the most diverse range of topics, from guns to gal tune to party anthems. Lyrically, he is already every bit the equal of many of the Dancehall megastars, although he is not quite at the level of a Bounty Killa or his mentor Spragga.

Indeed, Assassin’s major problem is that his style and voice often invite too many comparisons to Spragga Benz. Assassin’s phrasing, cadence and flow sometimes sound exactly like Spragga’s and that’s not a good thing. No matter how talented you are, mimicry does not take you to the top. Ask Merciless.

Prediction: ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID. Some DJs have all the tools and never quite break down the door. They become stars, but never kings. Look at Degree, or Terror Fabulous: Two DJs who had it all, but never made it all the way. For some reason, Assassin also has that vibe. Hopefully, the sniper can grow into his own unique style and prove us wrong, because we really like the kid.
